Since the thread for my story, "The War in Drekmore," was deleted after I posted to it, I'm starting a new thread.
The story mentioned above, "The War in Drekmore," was posted here without my knowledge or permission. On mentioning this to friends, I find that they, too, were not contacted for permission, and that large amounts of their work have been posted here. So, what is the policy? Do you actually speak with the fan fiction writers before putting their fiction on this site?
I'm hoping that the moderator will address my questions here rather than hiding from the issue by deleting this thread.

I deleted the thread because, unlike unlike the rest of the site, I don't need the files on my home computer - which does not have internet access at the moment - to do so. Why leave the thread up if the story it pertains to is to be deleted? I answered your email that was pretty much identical and got no response... Anyway, in response to the other question: I started the site 3-4 years ago, when I had no fanfiction, no online fandom - heck - practically no internet experience whatsoever. Most of the Aladdin fanfiction that was out at that time were written by people who had since lost interest. On more than one occasion I bookmarked a fanfic to read later, but then couldn't find it, since the author or site maintainer had removed it because they didn't care about Aladdin or Disney anymore. That was the whole point of the library: preservation. Before posting anything originally, I emailed all of the authors. Many responded, and most of them were flattered. Only one person said no - a songwriter, who refused, since she was actually selling CDs of the song and was afraid of copyright infringement problems. Some people didn't answer at all. That shouldn't have been a surprise, given the reason I started the library in the first place. An author who's lost interest might just delete any email with "Aladdin" in the subject line or just not bother to answer. A few of the emails bounced back to me, and often I tried several for the same person. On top of that, Silvestris had mentioned on the UMS fanfic page that she hadn't been able to get in touch with all of the authors, so what chance should I expect to have years later? Ironically, the writers I couldn't contact were the ones whose fics were most likely to dissapear. So, back then I decided to add the fics of those authors who never answered. I was giving them the credit, wasn't altering anything, some of them were at most than one archive already and probably wouldn't have a problem with it, and I was giving them a link back when I could, so, I thought, I wasn't doing anything wrong. Like I said, I was a newbie. Since then I've learned better and always get permission. Not being able to get ahold of people isn't as much of a problem, since I'm dealing now with recent authors, whose email addresses all still work, and many of whom I already know. The problem's with the old stories that were "grandfathered" in; I've lost my record of who specifically gave permission and who just didn't answer. In any case, I sincerely applogize, and hope you can forgive my youthful indiscretion. ;D I can't say I don't know how you feel; I've had one of my stories plagiarized twice this year. Call it karma. Anyway, I am going to remove your story, and if any of your friends want theirs taken down, they can email me. It'll ease my conscience a bit...

I'm still waiting for my story to be removed. And I did not receive a letter asking permission in the first place; I read all my mail, and always answer letters such as those quickly to avoid misunderstandings.
I'm glad that DAFT has always been strict on getting author permission rather than scraping all the stories and fanart off of every site available. I do know that Wendy Lee (The Ultimate Mozenrath Site) was not too happy to see that many of her works are archived here without permission.

I hadn't had access to a computer since the last time I posted here. It has been taken down now.
I don't specifically remember emailing you, but I did have a list at the time... Unless I had the wrong address, I don't know what happened. I definitely remember emailing Wendy, though. In any case, I'm sorry.
